Story #5: We are HUSKERS!
I just have to share a bit of a story with you…My brother and I live with our spouses in California. I am a third generation Nebraska alum. November 26, 2010, on our way to the final Husker/CU game my husband and I watched as a semi hit and nearly killed my parents, brother and sister-in-law on I-80 just outside of York. It was game day traffic, of course, while my families car came to rest facing east in the west bound lane. Husker fans didn’t just keep driving, they stopped, gave my family, coats, blankets, helped me pick our signs, luggage and other things from the interstate. They helped me while I was in total shock. My parents live in Colorado, and all my Mom (with a broken neck, busted wrist, lacerated liver, among other things) kept saying “we are HUSKERS”!!!! We watched that game from the ICU in Lincoln. A few weeks later, Dr. Tom Osborne, sent his well wishes to my family in a letter. Even now, I get tears thinking about it. I’ve loved Nebraska football my whole life. This experience was a gigantic reminder of why there truly is “no place like Nebraska”. I could say more, but feel like I need to share this with anybody who loves the Huskers as much as my family!!!
